The saga of Pakistan's difficult journey through the quagmire of narcotics proliferation began with the emergence of its first heroin addict in 1979. Being adeveloping country with a small economic base, the gauntlet thrown by the drug problem with international dimensions, stacked all the cards against Pakistan Pakistan is today notorious for many things, but in the last 20 years, drug production and addiction has increasingly become just one of them. The issue of drug addiction is often overshadowed by the many of the Pakistan's other human development problems, such as poverty, illiteracy and lack of basic health care, child labor and other problems such as terrorism, shortage of power resources, economic problems etc. But the fact is, drug abuse is rapidly growing in Pakistan and having a major impact on the society especially on the youth
