Strength of Identity:

Rural Education in Pakistan

Pakistan is a versatile country with rich and fertile land, blessed with many natural resources, river flowing from provinces, perfect weather conditions for cultivation and many other thing, but 64 years from now Pakistan is struggling with lots of crises and still considered to be a third world country.

The problem is in the education system prevailing in the country which is somewhat good in few elite class areas but worst in the rural areas of Pakistan. As majority of the Pakistani nation live in rural areas so they are kept away from quality education. Many children even do not go to the schools due to financial and other problems as good institutions are either expensive or inaccessible for the rural based poor people. The people of rural areas are mostly religious and to some extent backward, they do not have the exposure of modern education meeting the needs and requirements of international standards so the people there prefer to send their children into some Madrassah for Islamic and spiritual education.

The Government of Pakistan is confused in the education system where new traditions, laws, experiments, techniques and researches are emerging day by day. Education system is divided into English medium and Urdu medium. Children who are slightly sharp and intelligent are pushed to the English Medium schools whereas weak students are compelled to study under Urdu medium.

No doubt the existing rate of literacy of 56% is also much below the level because half of our population is still in the category of illiterates who can play their due role in the national building, but by irony of fate even this rate is not uniform and out of 70% of population living in Rural areas majority of the population is deprived of even the primary education. The literacy ratio and the quality of education has been our focus point.

However, to allow equal opportunities to all the segments of population is, in fact, true picture. The core issue being discussed here because of the reasons that in Pakistan rural population could not attain as much attention as had been accorded to the urban areas of the country. Consequently the rural area remained lagging behind.
