Fertilizing Employment

Introduction

In era of economic growth, Pakistan's economy grew by more than 6.5 percent per year since 2003. While income inequality increased somewhat, poverty declined significantly. Exports (in US$ terms) had grown by over 15 percent since 2004. Investment as a share of GDP increased from 17 percent in 2001/02 to 20 percent in 2005/06. A wide-ranging program of economic reforms launched in 2000 – fiscal adjustment, privatization of energy, telecommunications, and production, banking sector reform and trade reform – had played a key role in the country's economic recovery. Granted, they were not only factors. The external environment of low interest rates, abundant liquidity, and robust external demand, had also been favorable for the country's growth. Increased levels of concessional external assistance – including from the World Bank - and debt restructuring, also played a role. And after 2001, increased remittances and the additional external support provided by the US (which some have termed as "the September 11 windfall") helped increase the cushion of external reserves. But this situation was totally changed from the year 2008, Economy started crumbling, ForeignInvestment dried down and suddenly inflation and unemployment was at history high. Currently, unemployment is one of the major problems in Pakistan because when unemployment is high, resources are not effectively utilized and income levels of people are depressed. To create jobs in Pakistan for the increasing labor force, the socio economics system of Pakistan and institutions have failed. It is just because of the lack of proper planning that this problem is not yet diminished. Where unemployment is creating a lot of problems, it is also promoting extremism and terrorism in the society.

Major Causes of Unemployment in Pakistan:

1. The basic cause of unemployment in Pakistan is its higher growth rate of population. Because of this reason government and other institutions are failing to create sufficient job opportunities in Pakistan.

2. Law and order situation in the country is also a big issue. Karachi is the biggest business hub and the biggest metropolitan city of Pakistan. However, due to uncertainty and violence in the city, investors are reluctant to invest.

3. Political instability is another major reason for low level or lack of jobs in Pakistan.

4. Our educational system is also guilty for the mounting unemployment rate for the educated youth because the approach of our youth towards career choices is unrealistic and unproductive.

5. Lack of facilities and infrastructure in the energy sector also prevents the industrialists from setting up new industries in the country.

6. Policy makers have not handled things in an appropriate manner, and as a result, jobs in Pakistan are less but job seekers are more than that.

7. Foreign direct investment is sliding down to the bottom. According to the economic survey of Pakistan, in the current decade FDI was minimum last year. Also investors are loosing confidence in the political and economic system of the country therefore they are reluctant to invest in any new business venture. Resultantly, new jobs are not generating while the job seekers are rising continuously in the country.

Career Placement Cell:

Keeping all reasons in view mentioned above we feel that there should be a "Career Placement Cell",Working on volunteer basis to provide and guide job seekers towards good jobs and also groom graduates as per market needs by working on focused areas. With that this Career Placement Cell (CPC) would provide a platform to companies for conveying there message to potential employees or job seekers regarding skills, Knowledge and abilities they want in there employee. So keeping these guidelines in view fresh graduates and job seekers can get them selves prepared for future challenges and this would also help them in job search.

CPC would be focusing on following areas:

  • Grooming Program.
  • CV Writing.
  • Job fair twice a year.
  • Skill Development.
  • Encouraging Entrepreneurs.

Conclusion:

This Career Placement Cell is an effort and contribution towards society. By doing this we would play our part in reducing unemployment . Other than this CPC would encourage people to start there own small business by using there skills by doing this they would not only contribute in economy but they will create jobs for other jobless people.
